Last Christmas, the 15-month-old was hooked up to tubes and fighting for his life.

Mum Laura Smith, 21, said: "I have invited the entire family around. There will be 13 of us altogether. We are determined to make the day as special as possible for Lennox.

"He's missed out on so much and is interested in everything, like the Christmas lights on our tree which fascinate him.

"Having him home feels like all our Christmases have come at once. There was a time we thought it would never be possible. He's our Christmas miracle.

";Last year we spent the whole day in hospital. We were not sure how long Lennox might survive and wanted to make the best of the time we had left.

"This year he will be where he belongs. He has lots of presents to open, and will be doing normal family things like watching our favourite film How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Lennox was born with hypoblastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and suffered his first heart attack aged just three days old.

The condition affects normal blood flow through the heart and means the left side of the organ does not form properly.

Five days later, the brave tot had the first of five cardiac arrests.

During his latest surgery, for airway reconstruction, doctors also found an unknown condition where Lennox had grown a membrane that completely blocked his airway.

But after undergoing successful treatment, the youngster is finally able to go home after spending the first 373 days of his life in hospital.

Laura, an ambassador for The Sick Children's Trust, said: "Lennox has missed out on so much we are determined to cram in as many memories as possible.

"After being stuck in hospital for so long it is amazing to see how interested he is in the world around him.

"We love taking him out of the house, and to the park. The first time he felt the wind brush against his face his mouth broadened into a huge smile of surprise.

"The same thing happened the first time he saw a tree. He is still getting used to the outside world, but is adapting well.

"We are taking him to Disneyland in Paris next March and can't wait."
