Man, 49, dies after ‘setting himself on fire’ outside Walton McDonald’s

A MAN has died after he is said to have set himself on fire outside a Merseyside McDonald’s.

Witnesses watched in horror as the shocking incident took place in Walton, Liverpool, at 6am yesterday morning.

He was rushed to hospital where he was in a critical condition.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police has now confirmed the man died today, October 27.

Cops added the man's death is not being treated as suspicious and his net of kin have been notified.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said in a statement: "We can sadly confirm that a man has died following an incident on Queens Drive, in Walton, yesterday, Thursday, October 26.

"At around 5.50am it was reported that a 49-year-old man needed urgent medical attention after sustaining burns injuries.

"He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and has today, Friday, October 27, sadly passed away.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been informed. A file has been passed to the coroner."

Merseyside fire and rescue service also previously confirmed: "[We] attended an incident on Queens Drive, Walton, on the morning of Thursday October 26.

"Crews were alerted at 5.34am and one fire engine was on scene to assist Merseyside Police at 5.40am, we left the scene at 06.49am."
