Angry Royal Mail customers share pictures of Christmas presents and packages damaged in the post
From broken CDs to crumpled boxes, the Royal Mail certainly hasn't been delivering a superior service
FROM crumpled boxes to broken vases and cracked CDs – for the Royal Mail, Christmas certainly isn’t the most wonderful time of the year.
Dozens of customers have hit out at the delivery service, complaining about the poor service and questionable delivery tactics that left their parcels and presents damaged.
People who had organised to have their gifts delivered were left sorely disappointed, with one person complaining their parcel had been delivered completely crushed.
Sharing a photograph of the crumpled box on Twitter, the person wrote: “Damaged parcels from Royal Mail.
“just received this monstrosity delivered by @RoyalMail! Can’t give this as a Christmas gift, pls help!”
The gift giver said the box was eventually replaced by the retailer – but had been left disappointed that their intended gift had been left damaged.
He wrote: “Oh – caught somewhere in the Christmas crush! New box should be arriving today!”
Another unhappy recipient shared a photograph of a smashed vase, with a glittery red stem, writing: “Damaged parcels from Royal Mail. Thanks a lot”
She said that the vase had been packaged in “loads of bubble wrap” and fragile wrap, with one of the two vases smashed to smithereens.
One woman shared her upset at finding her makeup pallet destroyed in the post.
Sharing a photo of the Morphe pallet, the Twitter user wrote: “order my MorpheBrushes 350 pallete WHEN OPENED LOOK WHAT HAD HAPPENED @RoyalMail ARE TO BLAME!”
She later clarified the makeup had been wrapped inside two sets of bubble wrap and in a long brown envelope – claiming that the package was thrown over her fence.
Royal Mail replied on social media, writing: “I’m really sorry. Is it possible that the sender will replace? They may make a claim if you hold on to everything ‘as delivered’.”
Another Twitter user said they were happy to received their Nick Pitera CD in the mail – but the case had been broken, despite a “bunch of bubble wrap” being used.”
He wrote: “My Postman (is) always forcing mail through the letterbox and damaging it.”
Another even shared a photograph of their broken letterbox, which was left damaged when a postman forced in an envelope too big for the gap.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Royal Mail processes and delivers millions of items at this time of year without incident. Items can unfortunately sometimes arrive opened or damaged if they are poorly packaged.
“Every item of mail is important to us and all our people are trained in how to deliver mail correctly and securely. We also remind everyone of our correct delivery standards.”
They advised customers to make sure that items of value were sent by special delivery as well as making sure the packages were wrapped well and securely for their staff over Christmas.
The delivery fails comes after Post Office workers voted to stage a five day strike this week.
