Filthy takeaway shut down after customer finds cockroach in chips

A FILTHY takeaway has been closed by environmental health bosses after a customer found a cockroach in a portion of chips.
Inspectors were sent in and also found live and dead roaches on the kitchen floor of Bury Kebab House in Bury, Gtr Manchester.
The council said further investigations found an “extensive” German cockroach infestation, from nymphs to full-size adults.
A “huge amount” of cockroach droppings was also discovered in food preparation areas, the council said.
Owner Zafar Iqbal was ordered to close immediately pending further investigations.
A Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order, preventing the takeaway from opening again until health risks are removed, has now been granted after a hearing at Bury magistrates’ court.
Councillor Sandra Walmsley said: “It is appalling that a takeaway has been infested like this, putting public safety at risk.”
Attempts were made to contact Bury Kebab House for a response.
Environmental health officers discovered filthy equipment, rotting food and mouse droppings throughout Central Takeaway in Salford, Gtr Manchester.
Its owner has now been hit with a bill of nearly £3,000 after being hauled before the courts.
Shahzad Akthar was found guilty of four food safety and hygiene offences at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.
He was fined £1,080 and ordered to pay costs of £1,627 and a victim surcharge of £100.
The court heard officers visited the shop on November 5 last year following the rat complaint.
They found a “clear and active” mouse infestation with significant amounts of droppings throughout the premises, made worse by large amounts of food on the floor and gaps in walls and doors, giving mice access to food.
