Far-right Dutch leader Geert Wilders tweets provocative image of Angela Merkel with blood on her hands after blaming ‘cowardly leaders’ for ‘tsunami’ of Islamic terror

DUTCH far-right leader Geert Wilders has made a provocative dig at Angela Merkel by tweeting a photo of her with blood on her hands just hours after the horrifying terror attack in Berlin.
The anti-Islamic politician tweeted the mocked-up image of the German chancellor without comment, but has previously hit out at "cowardly" EU leaders over a "tsunami" of jihadist attacks across the continent.
The tweet, which has been been shared thousands of times, came as Mrs Merkel visited the scene of last night's horrific lorry attack to lay white roses.
His comments follow comments from German far-right politicians branding the victims "Merkel's dead" in criticism of the country's open-door immigration policies.
Dutch Freedom Party leader Wilders, who was convicted of inciting discrimination earlier this month, also tweeted: "In a previous tweet, he wrote: 'They hate and kill us. And nobody protects us. Our leaders betray us. We need a political revolution. And defend our people. #BerlinAttack."
Germany's far-right has also blamed Mrs Merkel's immigration policy in the wake of the attack, but the chancellor insisted terrorists would not destroy "freedom" in the country.
She said she was "shocked and shaken" by the horrific attack on a Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz at around 8pm on Monday.
A man reported to be a Pakistani asylum seeker was arrested after the massacre, but he has since been released as police hunt for the killer.
Mrs Merkel, who has come under fire for her free-for-all open door immigration policy, admitted it would be "particularly sickening" if the terrorist was an asylum seeker.
The suspect arrested after the attack was revealed to be 23-year-old Naved B who came to Germany in late 2015 or early 2016.
But police no longer suspect he is the perpetrator and believe the real attacker is "still armed, at large and can cause fresh damage".
Nearly a million people fleeing conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa have arrived in Germany in the past two years.
Marcus Pretzell, a prominent member of the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, tweeted: "When will the German state of law strike back? When will this cursed hypocrisy finally stop? These are Merkel's dead! #Nice #Berlin."

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage sparked outrage on Twitter this morning when he described the attack as "the Merkel legacy".
The controversial politician later came under fire after accusing the grieving widower of murdered MP Jo Cox of supporting ";extremism".
Mrs Merkel told reporters: "There is much we still do not know with sufficient certainty but we must, as things stand now, assume it was a terrorist attack."
