FANS were left horrified after all hell broke loose at an Elvis Presley tribute gig in Norwich - sparking chaos in the auditorium.

The violence erupted when a 6ft 5ins fan - wearing a pair of the King’s iconic sunglasses - stood up in his second row seat halfway through and refused to sit back down.

Tempers flared as the giant turned nasty when asked to move by fellow audience members at the Theatre Royal in Norwich.

Then, the brawl continued following interval when the huge bloke tried to punch an elderly man in the row behind him.

Susan Bartram, 49, of Long Stratton, Norfolk, was sitting just one seat away when the astonishing punch-up broke out.

The childminder said: “It just got totally chaotic.

“After he tried to punch the man next to my husband, someone grabbed his hands and then he punched the bloke in front of him.

“Meanwhile, someone sitting behind me tried to jump over my head to get at him.

“And there were people at least four rows back trying to get involved – it was unbelievable.”

Margaret Gibbs, of New Costessey, Norwich, who was with her husband Mike, said people were screaming as fighting spread like wildfire - but Elvis singer Rob Kingsley coolly carried on.

She said: “The big guy just went berserk and was starting on people next to him.

“At one point it looked like he had his hands around someone’s throat.”

She added the theatre, filled with hundreds of Elvis Presley fans on Sunday night, looked more like Norwich’s notorious nightclub strip.

“It was like being down Prince of Wales Road in the city centre on a Saturday night,” said Mrs Gibbs.

“People don’t expect to go to the theatre and have a fight break out.”

Rob Kingsley, who was performing as part of the national A Vision of Elvis tour, said it was the first time he’d ever seen fighting break out at his show.

A Theatre Royal spokesman said the 6ft 5ins man who sparked the crazy scenes had a “medical issue” and quickly became “disorientated”.

He said: “The theatre’s front-of-house team responded immediately, helped him from the auditorium and called an ambulance.

“Paramedics assessed him and took him to hospital where he could be treated for his medical condition.”

The spokesman the theatre takes the safety and security of its guests “very seriously” and said staff checked people caught up in the fracas to ensure they hadn’t been hurt.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said they hadn’t been called to the event.
