Theresa May must seriously consider new strike laws as she faces down this latest unprovoked wave of militancy
Tory MPs are pressing for new laws that would force unions to run at least half of all usual services and prevent strikes
Strike at unions
THIS is one 1980s Christmas repeat Britain doesn’t need: power-mad union leaders grinding the country to a halt, inflicting pain on millions.
Alongside the ongoing Southern Rail strikes, Post Office workers, Argos delivery drivers, airport baggage handlers and cabin crew are preparing to walk out this week.
They claim the disputes are about pay, conditions and passenger safety. But their intentions couldn’t be clearer.
Sean Hoyle, president of the RMT union, told members he wants to “bring down” the Government and “replace the capitalist system with a socialist order”.
With union puppet Jeremy Corbyn leading Labour into the political wilderness, the militants now reckon their best chance of toppling Theresa May is making all our lives a misery.
Taking their cues from the BMA, who feigned concern for patient safety as they dragged out the doctors’ strikes to extract more pay, union militants are betting the public will side with them over the Government.
We’re confident Brits won’t be so easily misled.
Tory MPs are pressing for new laws that would force unions to run at least half of all usual services and prevent strikes unless “proportionate” — or face financial consequences.
Mrs May must seriously consider these proposals as she faces down this latest unprovoked wave of militancy.
She’d get the thanks of a grateful nation this Christmas.
Highway robbery
SOME politicians won’t be happy until every car has been forced off the road.
How else to explain a bid by Lib Dem and Labour Lords to hand control of “moving traffic offences” to local councils?
Experience from London shows when cash-strapped councils get the chance to clobber motorists with hefty fines, they grasp the opportunity.
One London council has raked in over £12million in seven years from a single junction.
The primary concern of our Town hall dictators is their own budgets, not safety or uncongested roads.
This proposal must be kicked to the kerb.
No fear, George
GEORGE Osborne was a talented chancellor who lost his way in the EU referendum.
He must regret his name was ever attached to Project Fear.
So it’s a shame the man sacked by Theresa May displayed no remorse as he warned the PM against making immigration a red line in EU talks.
Many Remain supporters are still too quick to dismiss the concerns held by ordinary Brits about the impact open borders have had on their communities.
Cutting immigration numbers is a priority, and Mrs May knows it.
