Rishi Sunak will call on allies to help protect Europe’s borders from migrant-smuggling gangs
RISHI Sunak will today call on allies to help protect Europe’s borders from migrant-smuggling gangs.
He will chair a meeting in Spain with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, where a new pact to tackle them will be agreed.
The Prime Minister will announce more intelligence sharing and will also bring Belgium, Bulgaria and Serbia into the fold.
Ahead of the summit, Mr Sunak said: “With thousands of people dying at sea, propelled by people smugglers, the situation is immoral.”
“We cannot allow criminal gangs to decide who comes to Europe’s shores.
“When it comes to facing down the threat from Putin, confronting the risks and opportunities of AI or dealing with illegal migration, there is strength in unity.”
