Shocking dashcam captures Mercedes driver travelling the WRONG way down Scotland’s busiest motorway

Footage shows the car was spotted travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M90 at Bridge of Earn

THIS is the shocking moment a Mercedes driver was spotted driving down the wrong way on one of Scotland's busiest motorways.

Dashcam footage shows the red Merc travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M90 at Bridge of Earn on December 3 around 3.45pm.

The horrified driver, who filmed the incident, immediately pulls over to the hard shoulder to dial 999 before following the Mercedes to get its number plate.

Realising the fatal error, the Merc can be seen leaving the motorway using the entry slip-road and to rejoin the correct carriageway.

Eventually the careless driver is pulled over by a police car with flashing lights.

Police said the driver had made a "genuine error" and no charges were brought.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The driver quickly realised his mistake and turned around.

"He was later stopped and spoken to.

"Officers established this was a genuine error and the driver was provided with advice."

But a spokesman for Scotland's Worst Drivers, which obtained the clip, said the reckless driver could have caused a fatality.

He added: "To drive past not one, but two No-Entry signs in broad daylight is perplexing, but what's even more so is that the police are not taking any action what so ever.

"This driver error could have had disastrous, if not fatal consequences.

"To drive the wrong way on a motorway is one of the most dangerous errors any driver can make, as it not only puts their life at risk but every other road user on that stretch of road."

"Thankfully other drivers were aware of what happened and were able to avoid any incident."

Earlier this month, footage emerged on the internet showing wealthy youngsters setting fire to a luxury Mercedes G-Wagen.
