Miss Seweid also reported that one of them grabbed her bag, breaking the strap, and another tried to rip off her hijab before she fled the train at New York's Grand Central Station to seek help.

Cops investigating the alleged anti-Muslim attack trawled through surveillance footage but could not find any evidence to corroborate the Baruch College student's story.

She claimed she was subjected to the vile abuse after getting on the train at 23rd Street station on December 1.

But Miss Seweid told police on Tuesday that she made up the story, wanting to get attention because she was having family issues at home.

The teenager's false story echoes a similar incident in which a Muslim woman was subjected to vicious abuse and pushed down the stairs at Grand Central Station.

Seweid went missing for several days after the ordeal and was reported missing by her father Sayeed Seweid, but later found at a friend's house.

"You try to raise your children as best you can," the limo driver told , who is studying law and and attended court with Miss Seweid today.
