According to the weather service, Saturday will be "cloudy with outbreaks of rain" and a "heavy risk of thunder".

The wet weather will hit the north with "showers becoming more widespread from the southwest later".

From Sunday, the Met Office predicts humid conditions with thundery showers heading up the country.

Monday will bring further wet and wintry weather as temperatures are set to drop to below 20C.

And as we look towards next week, storms aren't looking to budge.

Brits can expect strong winds and lightning being brought in from the Atlantic on Tuesday - with temperatures being "average".

Deputy Chief meteorologist Rebekah Sherwin said: “The notable change in our weather occurs through Saturday evening as increasingly humid air moves up from the south bringing thunderstorms and heavy downpours.

"These heavy showers and thunderstorms will spread across much of the UK through the day on Sunday with nowhere immune from the chance of seeing them.

“Some downpours could lead to impacts on the transport network and with thunderstorms likely in places some temporary power disruption is possible.

"There is also the risk of hail and strong winds in places. It is likely that severe weather warnings will be issued as the confidence over the most likely areas to be affected increases.

"Stay up to date with the weather in your area, as forecasts can change quickly.”

Meteorologists also warned "organised rain" will arrive - which means a blanket of low, grey clouds will cover the sky - making areas dreary and dark.

The Met Office said: "On Tuesday, the last of the warm air-mass of continental origin should have cleared to the east, with westerly winds feeding in plenty of showers from off the Atlantic.

"Some of these will be heavy and thundery, especially in the north and west."

Despite the predicted wet and windy weather, Friday will remain warm and sunny, say the Met Office.

Scattered showers are expected in Northern Ireland and northern parts of England with the rest of the country and Wales remaining "largely fine and dry".

The south will feel slightly warmer with highs of 25C predicted.
