PG Tips splashes out £50m developing new tea bag because we’ve been brewing our cuppas all wrong

PG Tips has splashed out £50million on a teabag that is gone in 60 seconds.

The brewing giant spent two years cultivating its new innovation — which it says guarantees a quality cuppa even with the quickest of dunks.

Research revealed 85 per cent of tea lovers leave the bag in for under a minute, with 45 per cent pulling it out in less than 30 seconds.

So experts at PG Tips stirred, and brewed up a plan for those who do not have time to stand over their freshly poured beverage.

Its new design features a perfectly square bag with room for the leaves to infuse, but does not fold over itself which can limit the taste if taken out too soon.

It is filled with tea grown at high altitude in Kenya and Rwanda, making it PG Tips’ “most perfect, full-bodied and refreshing blend ever”.

PG Tips’ UK and Ireland boss Liam McNamara said: “We’re investing a record £50million to keep up with the changing tastes of today’s tea drinkers.

“Our new blend means consumers can expect a quicker infusion and a brighter, smoother, more consistent cup of tea that is full of flavour every single time, even for the nation’s impatient tea drinkers.”
