Boris Johnson saves his best gag for the PM and compares her £1,000 leather trousers to German lederhosen
Johnson teases Theresa May and claims she loves the German national dress after weeks of rows
BORIS Johnson has bitten back after weeks of stinging public sniping from the PM, comparing her controversial brown leather trousers to German lederhosen.
Mercilessly teasing Theresa May for the furore surrounding her £1000 luxury Amanda Wakeley slacks, Boris told his Christmas party for diplomats the PM loves the German national dress.
The Foreign Secretary chose a public platform to reignite the "Trouser Gate" scandal which was beginning to die down after days of humiliating headlines for No10.
Singing the praises of Brexit Britain's future hopes, the Foreign Secretary told hundreds of ambassadors from around the world that Britain were world class exporters.
"We've even managed to export Nigel Farage to America" he joked.
But BoJo quickly added that "not in a diplomatic fashion, of course" after weeks of speculation that the former UKIP chief could get a job liaising with Donald Trump's White House.
But he saved his best gag for the PM, noting that Britain were also top class importers.
"I have a very simple message for you all, which is that this government recognises - particularly now - that Britain cannot turn its back on the world.
"We understand that after 23 June we have to be more energetic, more outward looking, more engaged with the world and you all, than ever before.
"So I would say to the great ambassadors and high commissioners here tonight, that when you come to write your truthful and accurate diptels (diplomatic telegrams), I hope you will recall some of the enthusiasm and confidence of this new government.
"We are so cosmopolitan that we drink more champagne, buy more German cars than anyone else and our wonderful Prime Minister wears lederhosen."
After Theresa May’s bold fashion statement, we ask who wears the trousers best?
The joke came after multiple public gags were made at Mr Johnson's expense by Mrs May - most notoriously when she compared to him to a dog she could throttle.
And it comes just days after the pair had to have peace drinks at No10 after a thundering row about British foreign policy on Saudi Arabia.
