Man, 38, who allegedly shouted ‘I want to kill a Muslim’ charged with attempted murder over stabbing at Forest Hill train station

A MAN who allegedly shouted “I want to kill a Muslim” before ‘stabbing a train passenger’ has today been charged with attempted murder.

Adrian Brown, 38, of Forest Hill, south east London has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and assault after an incident at Forest Hill station on Monday, British Transport Police said.

Commuters have described how several people tried to restrain the suspected knifeman during the incident.

A man in his 40s who was injured in the attack was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious, but not life-threatening condition, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

BTP said they were treating the incident as a "serious hate crime" and said there was "no suggestion of wider terrorist aspect".

Officers in stab-proof vests pounced on the suspect after passengers fled Forest Hill station in London after the incident yesterday lunchtime.

The victim, in his 40s, was said to have been stabbed "several times" while the London Overground train was held at the platform.

In a video posted on Twitter officers are seen surrounding a man on a street near the scene of the stabbing.

Shoppers look on as the man is handcuffed and led away by uniformed officers.

Fellow commuters took to social media to share news of the incident, with photographs showing a frenzy of police and ambulances outside the popular commuter station.

London Overground confirmed services between New Cross Gate, Crystal Palace and West Croydon were all suspended due to a 'customer incident'.
