Edinburgh Airport hit by runway chaos as flights diverted or left ‘circling overhead’
FLIGHTS departing and arriving at Edinburgh Airport have been suspended this afternoon - causing runway chaos.
Emergency repairs are currently being carried out on the airfield.
It is understood several flights are being diverted or have been left circling overhead.
Edinburgh Airport has said that safety is their priority.
A spokesperson for the airport said: "Arrivals and departures are currently suspended for a short period while our teams carry out emergency repairs on our airfield.
"Safety is our priority and we thank you for your patience."
According to FlightRadar 24 flights departing the airport have been delayed for around 45 minutes.
A plane from Cologne, Germany, had to be diverted to Glasgow Airport amid the chaos.
A flight from Warsaw, Poland, had to circle the air near Penicuik.
And even flights heading to Glasgow have had to start circling as they wait for the all clear to land.

Edinburgh Airport has since confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that repairs "been completed and operations have since resumed."
It is the second day in a row the runway has had to close.
Yesterday, arrivals and departures were suspended for a short time while work to fix "extensive damage" on the airfield.
