Strike wreckers

THOSE too young to recall the misery heaped on Britain by union militants 40 years ago need only look at the ongoing Southern Rail shutdown or the Post Office Christmas strike.

They are grim reminders of how the hard Left attempts to destabilise crucial services and elected Tory governments using the public as cannon fodder.

Admittedly, Southern Rail was a disgraceful shambles even without the disruption from the RMT and Aslef.

But the unions, both of which supported Jeremy Corbyn for Labour leader, have turned it into a daily hell for half a million commuters.

The dispute is a stalemate between useless bosses and pig-headed militants feigning concern for passenger safety.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has not covered himself in glory either.

The public needs him to act. He must pull the plug on the Southern Rail franchise. Anyone could run it better.

New bidders must have the will and authority to crush the strikers. That means ordering them to return to work or face the dole.

The Government must review strike laws to prevent transport arteries being closed.

Meanwhile the post walkout is a monumental act of futile stupidity by the Communication Workers Union.

No prizes for guessing it too backs Corbyn.

It is protesting about job losses, pension changes and branch closures.

But in deliberately aiming to sabotage the Christmas run-up it guarantees it will have next to no public support.

Any disruption will be a gift to rival parcel services, already squeezing Post Offices and the Royal Mail.

All these left-wing militants dream of seeing Corbyn in Downing Street.

We shudder to imagine what destructive power they would then wield.

Luckily, most voters can imagine it too.

Row over Theresa May's trousers

HAS there been a worse loser than mediocre Tory backbencher Nicky Morgan?

We appreciate her world was upended by the referendum.

She’d been sitting pretty, her slavish loyalty to David Cameron rewarded with an overpromotion to Education Secretary.

She even deluded herself she might replace him in No10 once he’d kept us in the EU. But he lost. And the new PM sacked her.

Since when Ms Morgan has dedicated herself to childish revenge.

Neutering Brexit is a hobby. Her full-time work is paying Theresa May back. Even down to slagging off her trousers.

Why is anyone surprised Mrs May banned her from Downing Street?

And what must Ms Morgan’s voters think of this self-obsessed, destructive waste of her time in Westminster?

She claims to be guided by the thought: “How am I going to explain this in Loughborough market?”

OK . . . so let’s see her explain to her constituents how they benefit from the deliberate sabotage of her own leader.
