Man, 71, found dead as cops arrest man, 27, and woman, 33, over ‘murder’ in Rochester

A man has been found dead in Mercury Close, Rochester

A 71-YEAR-old man has been found dead as police make two arrests on suspicion of murder.

A 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested after the pensioner was found in a house in Borstal, near Rochester at 7.50am on Tuesday.

The man was confirmed dead at the scene and the victim’s next of kin has been informed.

The two suspects were arrested at 8.30am on suspicion of murder and taken into custody.

An investigation is being led by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

Phil, a resident who lives nearby, told : “The first I knew of anything was when I heard the police banging down the door.”

Another woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I went out to do the school run and within five minutes from when I returned there were five police cars and ambulances everywhere.

“It is sickening. He is an old man, that could be someone’s grandad.”
