When are the public holidays over Christmas?
Boxing Day bank holiday will take place as normal, on Monday 26th December, the public holiday for Christmas Day will take place on Tuesday 27th December.
If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday – usually the next Monday.
The first public holiday in 2017 is New Years Day – as this falls on a Sunday, the bank holiday will take place on Monday 2 January.

The next set of public holidays falls on Easter weekend.
Good Friday on 14 April and Easter Monday on 17 April, this is considerably later than 2016 when the Easter bank holiday fell in March.
The date of Easter is determined by the use of solar and lunar calendars – as a general rule, Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after 21 March.
