Clare Day, 27, was taking off her clothes in the ground floor room of the Walworth Castle hotel near Darlington, County Durham, when she spotted a man's face against the glass in the reflection of her mirror - like "something out of a horror movie".
She screamed, covered herself and then - horrifically - realised it was the man who'd checked her in.
The panicked married saleswoman, from Kirkby, Nottinghamshire, called reception and was told to lock the door and report it in the morning.
She told the : "I was so scared I pushed a wardrobe against it to block it, but I still didn’t sleep all night."
The paper reports the shift manager is believed to have been given the boot after CCTV footage was reviewed. Clare said he had tried to talk to her in the hotel restaurant that night.
Clare pressed charges but the man was only given a caution for voyeurism since it was a first-time offence.
