TORY rebel Nicky Morgan has been struck off the guest list for a meeting with the PM after scoffing at her leather trousers.
The former Education Secretary – a keen Remainer – had been invited to No 10 with other MPs to discuss Brexit talks with the other 27 EU member states.
But her name was removed after she gave an interview criticising the trendy £995 strides Theresa May wore for a magazine photoshoot.
Mrs Morgan quipped: “I don’t have leather trousers. I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much on anything apart from my wedding dress.”
Last night one of the other MPs who will attend the meeting described the Downing Street snub as “playground politics”.
Probed last week on whether her very expensive tastes and her Christmas goose instead of turkey made her “totally out of touch with the ordinary people of Britain”, the PM hit back saying she was trying to build “a country that works for everyone.”
After Theresa May’s bold fashion statement, we ask who wears the trousers best?
A senior aide to Mrs May was said to have flown into a rage when Ms Morgan’s remarks were discovered - and let rip with an angry tirade at the former minister.
The PM’s feisty chief of staff Fiona Hill texted fellow Tory Remainer Alistiar Burt: “Don’t bring that woman to Downing Street again.”
Shortly afterwards she received a text from Morgan, sacked by May in June, saying: “If you don’t like something I have said or done, please tell me directly. No man brings me to any meeting.”
Hill texted back to Morgan: “Well he just did. So there!”
Three days after the angry exchange, No 10 told Ms Morgan formally her name had been removed from the list of MPs invited to see the PM last Wednesday.
