Urgent hunt launched for 100-year-old machine gun after it was STOLEN from army HQ

A MASSIVE hunt is underway after a 100-year-old machine gun was stolen from an army HQ.

The WWI Lewis Machine Gun vanished from the regimental headquarters of the Queen’s Royal Hussars over the weekend.

The regiment use Britain’s world beating Challenger 2 battle tanks.

An urgent probe has been launched to track down the missing weapon - which was one of two so called “gate guardians” mounted outside the entrance to the HQ.

The gun has been deactivated - and was first reported missing yesterday.

An Army spokesperson said: “We can confirm the theft of a deactivated WWI Lewis Machine Gun, which has featured as a memorial outside the Regimental Headquarters of the Queen’s Royal Hussars in Tidworth.
