NICOLA Sturgeon has spoken to Donald Trump - just weeks after labelling him "deeply abhorrent".

The President-elect and SNP leader had a telephone call today to discuss Scotland and the US's "long-standing relationship".

A statement for the Scottish government called it a "brief introductory call".

It added: "The First Minister offered her congratulations and, reflecting on the letter she sent him following the election, expressed her belief in the values Scotland and the United States share.

"The First Minister and the President Elect also discussed the longstanding relationship between Scotland and the United States."

The chat came barely a month after Sturgeon called Trump's campaign comments "deeply abhorrent".

Yet the pair put aside their differences to speak this afternoon as Trump goes about preparing for his time in office.

The tycoon has strong links to Scotland, with his mother Mary Anne hailing from the Scottish Isle of Lewis before emigrating to the States.

Trump also owns two golf courses in the country - the Trump International course near Aberdeen and Turnberry in South Ayrshire.

The Republican President-to-be has also held phone talks with PM Theresa May, but is yet to meet her.

He was said to have been "charmed" by Tory leader May following the chat last month.

Brexit mastermind and supporter of Trump Nigel Farage remains the only Brit politician to have met with Trump since his surprise election win last month.
