Christmas turkey weighing 60lbs is ready to be served up as a festive feast
A FARM in Devon may have produced the largest turkey in Britain with a whopper at 60 pounds.
This enormous bird is eight times the average weight of a baby born in the UK.
The family-run farm thinks this monster may hold the crown for the biggest turkey - which could feed multiple families on Christmas Day.
Rosamond Farm in East Devon supply thousands of people the centrepiece for their festive feast each year, and one lucky family will be eating turkey for months if they get this particular bird.
The farm, run by Steve and Sarah Slade are gearing up for the Christmas rush as households across the country buy turkeys.
Steve said there were three turkeys of that size in this year's 5,200 birds on the farm.
He said: "It took a big of lugging, took two of us to carry it around."
He estimated it would be sold for about £70, most likely to a caterer, who would have an oven of the right size.
One farm in the south-east has employed “guard” alpacas to protect 24,000 free-range turkeys from foxes this Christmas.
The unexpected sentries are providing security on a farm in south-east England.

Tom Copas, the owner of Copas Turkeys in Cookham, Berkshire, welcomed the alpacas to his farm after learning of their natural instinct to guard and following the killing of hundreds of his birds by foxes ahead of previous Christmas’.
The farm now employs 10 alpacas, named Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Onion, Prancer, Sage and Vixen.
The farm’s marketing manager, Dominic Spooner, said: “They tend to stay very close to the birds and they seem to get along very well with them. They just watch them.
“It’s something in their nature. They’re just instinctively guard animals. But they’re also very curious and they’ll come trotting over if you go into the field.”
