Muslim woman wearing hijab branded a “terrorist” on packed train THEN pushed down the stairs at New York station

Hate crimes have gone up by 115 per cent in the Big Apple since Donald Trump was announced as President-elect

A FEMALE station worker was subjected to vicious abuse, branded a "terrorist" then pushed down the stairs.

Soha Salama has lived in New York for 20 years and was confronted by the man while on her way to work at Grand Central Station on Monday.

She was dressed in her uniform and was wearing a traditional Muslim headdress, a hijab.

The man came up to her and allegedly said in her face: "You're a terrorist, go back to your own country!"

Salama who works as an MTA station agent, said she has never encountered a verbal attack over her religion before.

She said the abuse didn't end there - she claims that when she arrived at the station the man confronted her again, and this time shoved her down a staircase.

She confirmed to : "He pushed me down the stairs, yes. It's my first time I face something like that."

Salama injured her knee and her leg in the fall.

The attack came as hate crimes, many of them anti-Semetic, have gone up by 115 per cent since Donald Trump was confirmed President-elect.

Salama is a working mother and has four young children.

She said all she is trying to do is get on with her life: "We are trying to be a normal human being. It doesn't matter what colour, what religion we are having."

However despite being shaken by the two separate incidents, she said she will not let it change the way she feels about living in the US.

She said: "We're going to be a little more cautious. I will continue to wear my hijab, I would never think about not wearing my hijab, I will still wear it. It's never going to affect me."

Last week an off-duty Muslim police officer was confronted in Brooklyn by a man who said they were going to slit his throat.

Hate crimes are overall up by 35 per cent this year in New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement Monday and said: "This is the great state of New York - we welcome people of all cultures, customs and creeds with open arms.

"We do not allow intolerance or fear to divide us because we know diversity is our strength and we are at our best when we stand united."
