Bizarre footage shows moment dozy carer accidentally tips unsuspecting patient out of wheelchair after hitting a KERB

Footage filmed on a dash cam shows the moment the wheelchair's occupant is sent tumbling out of her chair

A DRIVER unwittingly captured bizarre footage of the moment a carer accidentally tips an unsuspecting patient out of her wheelchair after hitting a kerb.

Nigel Betts was stunned to see the chair's disabled occupant tumble face first towards the pavement as he drove through Somerset.

The 48-year-old charity worker's dash cam footage is left on a worrying cliff-hanger as a car drives past at the moment of impact.

Nigel, from Somerset, said: "I was just driving in the outside lane of two lanes when I saw this happened to the left of me.

"I saw what happened straight away. I'm quite an observant driver so I wasn't just looking 2ft in front of my car and I noticed it.

"Because I was in the outside lane I wasn't really able to do anything about it. Luckily there was a lorry driver in the inside lane who did stop and get out and went to help them.

"I thought it was half amusing, but at the same time I hoped they were OK – it must have been a very frightening awakening.

"I just thought it was something different from all the usual dashcam videos of careless drivers on the road – this was a careless carer!

"The moment of impact wasn't really visible to me because of the car which came up the inside lane but I was able to check my rear view mirror so I saw the lorry driver getting out to help them.

"Because you can't see that moment it is almost a 'what happens next'-type video."

In the video, filmed at about 3.15pm in October, the woman in the wheelchair appears to be dozing.

Suddenly the carer hits a kerb with the chair, rudely awakening its occupant and sending her flailing face-first towards the floor with arms outstretched.

But the painful moment of impact is hidden by a car which drives past in the inside lane.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said there was no record of an ambulance attending the incident.

Dashcam footage has also captured a taxi driver hurtling over speed bumps at 80mph and the moment a dangerous driver flipped car at 90mph on a rural road.
