Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte impersonates Donald Trump – bizarre moment brutal hardliner claims The Donald PRAISED him for killing drug dealers
Duterte has also claimed Mr Trump has invited him for coffee whenever the Philippine president is in Washington or New York
Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has claimed Donald Trump praised him for killing drug dealers in a bizarre speech where he impersonates the American president-elect.
Duterte said that Trump told him not to worry about Americans criticising him and said 'you are doing good, go ahead'.
Trump invited him for coffee if he visits Washington or New York and told him he wanted to hear how Duterte deals with the media, his critics and and the public, the Philippine president said.
Duterte quoted Trump as saying: "Oh President Duterte, we should fix our bad relations, you're doing great."
He added that after his talk with Trump, he felt 'like a saint'.
Duterte called to congratulate Trump late Friday.
In earlier comments about the phone call, Duterte said Trump wished that his crackdown on illegal drugs would succeed and said he assured the American president-elect the Philippines would maintain its ties with America which is a departure from Duterte's hostility towards Obama's administration.
In the past Duterte has lashed out at President Barack Obama, the State Department, EU and UN officials and human rights groups for raising concerns over his drug crackdown which has reportedly resulted in 4,000 suspected drug dealers and users dead.
Obama cancelled what could have been his first formal meeting with Duterte at an Asian summit in Laos in September after Duterte unleashed an expletive-laden warning for the U.S. leader not to lecture him on human rights.
In one speech, Duterte told Obama to 'go to hell'.
