The Labour leader had no direct involvement but was head of the Crown Prosecution Service from 2008-2013.

He could shed light on how the system failed Mr Malkinson, 57, Tories say.

Tory MP David Morris said: “The case of Andrew Malkinson shows us that miscarriages of justice take place and we have to learn every lesson from this to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“There should be a full inquiry into this with Sir Keir Starmer who was DPP at the time being held fully accountable for his organisation’s actions and inactions.

“I’m sure the Labour leader would agree with me this matter needs to be looked at with urgency.”
