PLANE MAD

How savvy 26-year-old flew from London to Glasgow for just £4 return – avoiding extortionate £138 train fare

And the flight took just an hour compared to almost five hours by rail

A LONDONER managed to grab himself a flight to Glasgow for just £4 – more than £130 LESS than if he travelled to the Scottish city by train.

William Grove found the bargain when he was researching a trip to Glasgow for his friend's art exhibition last month.

William was stunned when he discovered a train journey via National Rail would set him back an eye-watering £137.50 return.

So instead of just paying up he decided to find out if there was a cheaper way to travel - and that's when he chanced upon a flash Ryanair sale offering one-way flights for as little as £2 (including taxes) to Glasgow from London Stansted airport in Essex.

The 26-year-old told : "My friend had just opened up an art studio near Glasgow - called practice, near Bellshill - so I travelled up to support their first show. I just looked and I think the only option at the time was the £137.50 return.

"Adding in the £25.40 return to Stansted to the £4 (a friend picked me up from Glasgow airport), that’s a saving of £108.10!

"At the moment, I’m looking to go to Cornwall next year to visit some friends and am not even considering the train at this point.
"They take an insanely long time to get into England’s deep south that it’s really not worth the hassle.
"If it’s a quick hop then I don’t mind it. The flight to Glasgow was only an hour or so, compared to 4.5 hours on the train.
"So, factoring the time it takes me to get to and from the airport, the journey time flying is roughly the same. And I can have a couple of pints in the airport Wetherspoons, which is always a bonus."
While the £2 flash sale has now ended you .
