SAJID Javid’s brother has been put in charge of tackling the “scourge” of illegal immigration.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman has poached Bas Javid from his job as deputy Met commissioner.

He will become her director of immigration enforcement in November following a 30-year career in the police.

Ms Braverman said: “Immigration abuse is a scourge on our society and I will leave no stone unturned in clamping down on this illegality.

“Bas brings a wealth of law enforcement experience and will further ramp up our efforts to tackle immigration offending, as the British people would expect.”

Bas said: “Protecting the integrity of the UK’s immigration system is vital, so it is an honour to be appointed to this important role.”

Bas and Sajid, a former Home Secretary, are among five brothers born to their Pakistani father who worked as a bus driver.

The Home Office insisted the recruitment process was “rigorous, fair” and had “open competition”.

Mr Javid, who also served as Chancellor following a host of Cabinet positions, is quitting Parliament at the next election.

He has campaigned on suicide prevention after one of their brothers, Tariq, took his own life in 2018.
