THERESA May was forced to defend wearing £1,000 brown leather trousers after allegations she was out of touch with ordinary Brits.
Fashion-mad Mrs May said it did not matter what she wore because she meets people “in a whole variety of circumstances” as PM.
Probed on whether her very expensive tastes and her Christmas goose instead of turkey made her “totally out of touch with the ordinary people of Britain”, the PM hit back saying she was trying to build “a country that works for everyone.”
Mrs May recently posed for a photo-shoot in the £995 chocolate coloured Amanda Wakeley trousers and £140 black Burberry trainers, prompting mockery from her own MPs including Nicky Morgan.
The sacked former Education Secretary claimed she has never spent so much money any clothes apart from her wedding dress.
Ms Morgan said: “My barometer is always, "How am I going to explain this in Loughborough market?"
After Theresa May’s bold fashion statement, we ask who wears the trousers best?
The MP said the designer trousers had been "noticed and discussed" in Tory circles.
Other Tory MPs also raised concerns that constituents had mentioned the eye watering price for the PMs fancy slacks.

The row was fuelled by a recent interview where the PM confessed to shunning traditional Christmas for a posh goose.
She told the Radio Times she "always likes to cook the Christmas meal... But it won’t be turkey.
"For a few years now we have tended to have goose instead."
But responding to criticism that many Brits will be unable to relate to her lifestyle, Mrs May said: “Look, I stood on the steps of Downing Street and said what I did about the importance of a country of that works for everyone.
"Because that is what I have heard as I’ve gone around the country and met people in a whole variety of circumstances.
"I think it is important for politicians to get out and about and exactly that what I do."
