ROAD TO NOWHERE

Our newbuilds are inches away from the M1 & noise was unbearable… but there’s a surprising reason we now LOVE it

RESIDENTS of a newbuild estate built inches away from the M1 have told how they love living there.

Locals on the relatively new Kings Gate development in Shepshed, Leicestershire, say there are two upsides to living next to the busy motorway.

They say they can’t hear the road at all - but house prices are still cheap because of it.

Many houses even face the colossal highway, but homeowners insist they can’t hear any noise.

One resident, who lives on Woodpecker way told : “Even with the windows open, you can’t hear a thing.

“It’s fine here, it really is. I’ve had no issues since I’ve moved here and even if it is noisy, it’s not that noticeable. It’s really not too loud."

“I’ve never had a problem and if there are issues around here, they’re minor. We certainly don’t hear them.”

The tranquil and quiet conditions are thanks to a huge privacy fence erected around the estate which act as sound screens.

Another local said: “We’ve never had issues with noise at all.

“It’s quite quiet. Even with the windows open in the summer, you can’t hear a thing.”

The woman says the idea of living near the motorway never put her off living on the estate.

She explained: “The houses are far cheaper here than where I was looking, but the motorway never played a part in it.

“You’ve got schools around here and everything well served around here. It doesn’t bother me there’s a motorway.”

It comes after a family who live under the M4 motorway said they love feeling their home shudder as heavy traffic passes overhead.

Arthur and Gwyneth Howells bought the two-bed property when the roads were a lot quieter in 1969, and it cost them £2,500.

But the retired couple, who live there with son Jason, have adapted to the increasing flow of traffic over the years - and wouldn't have it any other way.

And despite living in a high pollution risk area due to congestion fumes, the family say they are still "fit as fiddles".
