Theresa May delivers personal Christmas message to armed forces as she makes her first visit to troops overseas in Bahrain
The PM offered troops "a heartfelt thank you for your service and sacrifice" as she addressed joint forces personnel on board HMS Ocean today
THERESA May has delivered an early Christmas message to our boys wishing them a "peaceful Christmas".
Offering them "a heartfelt thank you for your service and sacrifice" the PM said British Troops were "a vital part of Britain's global message."
She delivered her "admittedly somewhat early" Christmas message flanked by two Merlin helicopters and assault vehicles draped in Union Jacks.
The PM told the Navy that they must help step up after Brexit to defend British free trade around the world.
In sweltering heat, she spoke to 400 serviceman from 845 Naval Air Squadron, 662 Army Air Corps, 27 Squadron RAF and 42 Commando on board the Royal Navy Fleet Flagship.
The UK's premier warship is currently serving as the command platform for vital operations in the Middle East, directing the giant US Task Force 50 fleet.
The Prime Minister is attending the Gulf Cooperation Council in Bahrain, and announced new measures to "prevent radicalisation and tackle terrorism".

She promised to beef up Britain's intelligence sharing in the Middle East to help destroy Isis.
No 10 will set up new counter-terrorism training with partners in the Gulf and will despatch experts to the region to bolster cyber security.
The PM told the personnel: "Today, as we face multiple global challenges and an increasingly uncertain and dangerous world, you are vital to protecting our nation's interests and provide a clear demonstration of the UK's enduring security commitment to the Gulf."
She wished the troops a "heartfelt thank you on behalf of our country for your service and your sacrifice.
"We owe you the same deep commitment and unflinching support.
"This time of year brings home the extraordinary sacrifices made by you and your families. Let me say a huge thank you.
"It’s still a little early but let me be one of the first to wish you a very peaceful Christmas and new year," she said.
And in reference to Brexit, she added: "And as Britain steps up to forge a new, positive, confident role for our country on the global stage, the Royal Navy will be an important part of our vision, pursuing our objectives of security on land and at sea and helping to ensure the free flow of international trade."
Mrs May went on: "Britain takes enormous pride in our Royal Navy, known the world over for its professionalism and expertise and for the dedication and courage of its sailors, Royal Marines and its officers."
She added that "more than ever, Gulf security is our security", highlighting the strategic importance of the oil and gas supplies from the Middle East.
