STAGE FRIGHT

Shocking moment audience clap and cheer as dancer dies during performance, thinking it was part of the show

R. Khusainov, 48, collapsed at concert in Russian town of Urus-Martan in south-western Chechen Republic

THIS is the shocking moment a dancer collapsed and died on stage – as the audience clapped and laughed, believing it was all part of the show.

The 48-year-old man, named only as R. Khusainov, was performing at a Mother's Day concert in the town of Urus-Martan in south-western Russia's Chechen Republic.

A video recorded by a member of the audience on their smartphone shows him collapsing to the floor while performing a traditional Lezginka dance.

The Lezginka is a traditional dance of the Lezgins – an ethnic group in the Caucasus region – and is performed by many other groups including Chechens and Cossacks.

Khusainov, who was dancing energetically while singer Liza Akhmatova performed a Chechen song, appeared to suddenly lose his footing and fall.

For a few seconds, Akhmatova carried on singing and dancing around him and the audience can be heard laughing and whooping in the background.

She didn’t appear to realise what was happening, saying jokily: "Hey, he stopped it"

The singer then urged the audience to give Khusainov a round of applause.

But it quickly became clear that something was very wrong and other members of the cast came onto the stage to check on the dancer.

Paramedics were called and quickly arrived at the venue – but Khusainov, who worked as a children's dance teacher, was already dead.

“Earliest reports indicate he suffered a massive heart attack and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.”
