She was handed an 18 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement course designed for women and told to pay £250 costs.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins said the relationship was "toxic" and "violent" and told how Gough also bore responsibility for the attack.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins said: "This is a very unfortunate toxic relationship.

"I find it very difficult to understand why a man would be in the house in the presence of his children and his partner when it's clear he's not welcome there and filming it - it's almost anticipating the incident that took place or something similar.

"A great deal of blame has got to fall at his door."

The judge also said police had been called to the home "on numerous occasions" due to violence Gough had shown towards mum-of-two Evans.

He added: "You were put in a situation where you panicked and resorted to violence as a last resort.
