Frantic search for missing man who ‘fell in a river’ and vanished in Hereford as three suspects arrested for murder

A FRANTIC search has been launched for a missing man who reportedly fell into a river and vanished - with three suspects arrested for murder.

Cops in Hereford were called at 12.05am this morning by a man who said his friend had fallen down the Victoria Bridge embankment into the River Wye.

A police helicopter helped emergency services search the river for the man in his twenties - who is believed to have been in a brawl before his suspected death.

His family have been informed about his disappearance, with a scene guard still in place along the river.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Garner said: “Teams have continued to search the river today but unfortunately have so far been unable to find the missing man.

"Our enquiries are still in the initial stages, however, following new information that the missing man was involved in an altercation, we have now arrested three men on suspicion of murder.

"They are currently in police custody while our enquiries continue into the circumstances leading up to the time the man is believed to have entered the river.

"If anyone has any information that could help with our enquiries, we urge them to get in contact with us.

"Yhe information they provide could be crucial in piecing together what happened in this tragic incident."

Witnesses should call West Mercia Police quoting incident 5i, dated July 29.
