Ooh la large!

Britain’s biggest croissant weighs 1.5kg, has 3,000 calories and a HUGE price tag

A POSH bakery is selling Britain’s biggest croissant — but it will set you back a tasty £25.

French eatery Philippe Conticini is flogging the 45cm-long XXL pastries, which are ten times the size of regular ones.

The giant treats weigh about 1.5kg (3.3lbs) and contain around 3,000 calories — more than one person’s daily recommended allowance.

Customers can also get their hands on mega pain au chocolat for £28.

The flaky foodstuffs must be ordered two days in advance and takes one hour and 50 minutes to bake.

They launched in Philippe Conticini’s two London shops in Camden and South Kensington earlier this month following success in France.

Assistant director Theo Efthymiadis told The Sun: “It started in Paris, but as soon as we launched it in the UK, it’s been very popular.

“They’re not easy to make — it takes two days. Across our UK shops, we do around 30 to 40 a day.”

The bakery also sells normal-size croissants priced at £2.75, while a regular pain au chocolat is £2.90.

Fans have so far included comedian Jack Whitehall’s partner, model Roxy Horner, pictured below with the giant pain au chocolat.

One croissant fan wrote online: “Can you honestly say you have seen a pastry of this size?

"It wasn’t just huge, it had a good crispy outer and was super fluffy with gorgeous layers.”

Another fan said of criticism of the price: “Best money we ever spent!”

According to Guinness World Records, there is no current holder for the largest croissant.
