Murdered Labour MP Jo Cox left £46,000 to her husband Brendan – after she died without leaving a will
MURDERED MP Jo Cox left an estate of £46,000 to her husband, it was revealed yesterday.
Probate records disclose the 41-year-old Labour politician died without leaving a will.
It means her estate is inherited by her husband Brendan Cox, a former Save The Children fund executive, with whom she had two children.
Neo-Nazi loner Thomas Mair slaughtered Mrs Cox on June 16 near her constituency surgery in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
She was shot and then stabbed repeatedly by the 53-year-old.
The jobless gardener who has a history of mental illness shouted ‘Britain first’ as he attacked the MP.
Mrs Cox’s estate does not include jointly-owned property or money in a shared bank account with her husband, as this would automatically be passed on to him after her death.
Mair, 53, was handed a whole-life term at the Old Bailey in November.
Two of Jo Cox’s staff who were with her when she was murdered say it helps them cope to know she was not alone.
Fazila Aswat and Sandra Major were getting out of a car with Jo when she was shot and stabbed by Thomas Mair.
Office manager Fazila said: “She wasn’t on her own. She was with two people that very much loved and cared for her.”
Sandra, the MP’s senior case worker, said Jo had tried to protect them as they arrived for surgery in Birstall, West Yorks.
She said of the 41-year-old mother of two: “Jo wasn’t just our boss, she was our friend.”
Fazila added: “On a personal level, you’re coping with the loss of a friend.
"On a professional level, you’re mourning the loss of a woman that, in no doubt in anybody’s mind, was going to be a minister.”
