BLOOD 'POISONED'

Woman who nearly killed cancer stricken son after ‘injecting faeces’ into his IV bag is charged with attempted murder

Misguided mother Tiffany Alberts, 41, pulled stunt multiple times in failed attempt to get her son better treatment by having him moved to a different unit

A MUM who allegedly injected faeces into her cancer stricken son's IV bag has been charged with attempted murder.

Tiffany Alberts, 41, admitted she had carried out the disgusting procedure in an attempt to secure better treatment for her son.

Doctors at the hospital in Indiana, USA, became suspicious after the 15-year-old boy developed several unexplained blood infections.

They set up secret cameras in his room to try and solve the riddle with footage from these camera catching Tiffany in the act.

The infections could have killed the child, who suffers from leukemia, and have caused delays to his cancer treatment.

Doctors now say they have missed the ideal window for saving the boy's life.

His mother was also charged charged with six counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to  the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis launched a child abuse investigation on November 17 when the boy developed the infections and medical staff could not work out why.

Alberts, 41, was seen in video surveillance according to court documents, which stated she was seen injecting an unknown substance into the IV bag with a syringe a number of times.

Medical staff revealed the boy first had chemotherapy for his condition in September, and after the treatment went home.

However he was back in hospital a few days later, and was suffering from  high fever, vomiting and severe diarrhea.

Doctors then discovered Alberts' son had blood had organisms in it which are normally found in feces.

When she was brought in for questioning,  it is alleged Alberts first told investigators she injected water into her son’s IV to “flush the line” because the “medicine that was given to him burned.”

However, according to the documents, she then confessed to what she had done.

Alberts, who lost her husband earlier this year, admitted to injecting the IV several times, and said she only did it because she wanted to get her son better care.

The 15-year-old was hospitalised for months as a result of her actions and had to have several surgeries.

Although his health is now better, because of doctors treating the blood infections which were caused by the feces, there is now concern they may have missed the best window to treat his leukemia.

And they pointed out if Alberts son had gone through the treatment while he had a blood infection, he could have died.
