Hate preacher Anjem Choudary, 56, charged with terror offences after ‘directing a terrorist organisation’
HATE preacher Anjem Choudary has been charged with terrorism offences along with another man.
Choudhary, 56, and Khaled Hussain, 28, were arrested last week over alleged membership of a banned organisation.
The well-known preacher was taken into custody during a dawn raid in East London, while Canadian national Hussain was collared at Heathrow Airport.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Two men arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences last week have been charged.
"They were held under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000."
The spokesperson confirmed Choudhary was charged with "membership of a proscribed organisation, addressing meetings to encourage support for a proscribed organisation [and] directing a terrorist organisation".

Hussein was charged only with membership of a proscribed organisation.
The charges relate to Al-Muhajiroun, which was banned by the British Government in 2005.
The pair appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today and were remanded in custody before an appearance at the Old Bailey on August 4.
