Disturbing ‘evidence removed from Long Island Serial Killer suspect’s house’ after ‘Gilgo Beach murderer arrested’
SUFFOLK County Police have found 'evidence' believed to be related to the Long Island Serial Killer arrest that was made this morning.
An eyewitness told The U.S. Sun that law enforcement was seen "removing a large cooler" from the suspect's house.
Officials then placed it in the command center.
Police arrived at an address in Massapequa Park, under 30 miles east of New York City.
Witnesses report that police were at the scene all night and The U.S. Sun's exclusive photos show forensic officers combing the scene.,
The investigation has been described as "one of the most intense, prolific searches for a serial killer ever," per News 12 Long Island, which was the first to report the arrest.
The U.S. Sun was the first outlet to name suspect Rex Heuermann, after a detective confirmed his identity to The U.S. Sun.
He is a 59-year-old architect based in New York City and is the founder of RH Consultants & Associates, LLC.
In an online profile, he was described as someone with over 30 years of experience that had worked with clients like American Airlines.
The hunt for the serial killer has been ongoing since 2010 when police were in search of Shannan Gilbert, 24, who'd been reported missing.
Police then found the body of Melissa Barthelemy, 24.
Within days, more women were found, including Megan Waterman, 22, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, with their remains wrapped in burlap.
The women were sex workers and were reported missing between the years 2007 and 2010.
Their remains were found near each other, buried in the marsh at Gilgo Beach.
Over the past decade, eleven sets of human remains have been found in the area, with them belonging to various women, a female toddler, and a male.
In 2022, Suffolk Police County released a 911 recording related to Gilbert's disappearance in 2010.
“There is somebody after me,” she said in the call.
“Somebody’s after me — please."
Heuermann appears to have been on the police's radar since last year when investigators traced phone calls made from burner phones to some of the victims' phones.
These calls linked him to his office, his home, and a Tinder profile.
He appeared in Riverhead Criminal Court on Friday and was charged with the first-degree murder of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.
He was ordered to be held without bond, with Judge Richard Ambro citing "extreme depravity" as justification for keeping him in custody.
Prosecutors argued against releasing him on bail due to the content on his computer's search history, which contained “sadistic materials, child pornography, images of the victims and their relatives."
His search history also included questions like "why could law enforcement not trace the calls made by the long island serial killer" and "why hasn't the long island serial killer been caught."

Prosecutors also claimed that hair from Heuermann's wife was found with the remains of three of the women buried at Gilgo Beach.
Heuermann pleaded not guilty and spoke only to confirm his name.
