Footage of the collision showed the supercar weaving in and out of traffic before overtaking and crashing head-on into a Royal Mail van.

Police confirmed it was being driven by a man in his 20s.

It has now been revealed some of the youngsters in the car were students at Stepney All Saints School, who had hired the Lamborghini to take them to prom.

The school's website says there was a "leavers' celebration" of Year 11s that evening.
