Heartbroken family & friends pay tribute to ‘beautiful boy’ Scots teen killed in quad bike horror
HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a Scots tourist who died after being crushed by an overturned quad bike on a Greek island.
The teen, named on the island as Ryan Bennet, 19, was involved in the horror crash on early Friday morning in Zakynthos.
Emergency crews raced to the scene and he was rushed to Zakynthos Hospital in an ambulance.
It is understood the vehicle veered off a path and overturned, which fatally injured the teen.
A passenger, also 19, was also injured in the incident and suffered minor injuries.
Tributes have now poured in for Ryan, from Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, with family and friends taking to social media to pay their respects.
Posting on Facebook, a cousin said: "Absolutely heartbroken. My gorgeous cousin taken far too soon. I love you so much".
His auntie added: "My gorgeous nephew. Love u loads. Taken far too soon".
And his uncle wrote: "Ryan. My heart's broken wee man. You will never be forgotten, ever. Until we meet again. You were simply the best. Love you always. Uncle Craig".
A fourth posted: "Devastating loss for the family, still can’t believe it, rest easy Ryan what a beautiful boy you were".
While another post read: "He was taken too soon, sending love to all of your family he will be sorely missed. Love you."
And another shared: "Sorry for your loss, this is so tragic thinking of everyone involved".
Authorities said both occupants of the vehicle were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, while driving "at a slow speed".
The driver of the vehicle attempted a sudden manoeuvre which caused the quad to overturn.
Images from the scene show the quad on its side in the middle of the road.
An investigation is underway by local police, and a toxicological exam will be taken from the tragic lad.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
