What was the water pressure on the Titanic depth's PSI?

12,400 feet below the surface at the site of the Titanic wreck, the water pressure is estimated to be 6,000 PSI or 375 atmospheres.

This is the equivalent of feeling 5,500 pounds of force or having 35 elephants standing on one human's shoulder.

On June 18, 2023, OceanGate Expeditions launched a submarine to explore the infamous Titanic wreckage, but shortly after the trip began, it lost contact with the surface ship, launching a days-long search.

Then, on June 22, maritime experts announced that the five passengers aboard Oceangate's Titanic submarine were believed to be dead.

Experts think that the ship imploded- collapsed inwards on itself- due to the water pressure at the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Shahzada Dawood, a UK-based businessman and billionaire
  • Sulaiman Dawood, Shahzada's 19-year-old son
  • Paul-Henry Nargeolet, the Director of Underwater Research for E/M Group and RMS Titanic, Inc.

In a statement, Oceangate and the US Coast Guard said: "The debris field is consistent with a catastrophic implosion.
