Man caught with £240k of weed wrapped up like Christmas presents in his car

Daniel Yates could spend 16 years in jail if convicted of possession and trafficking charges after cops uncovered haul

A DRIVER is facing possession and trafficking charges after being caught with $300,000 USD (£240,000) of marijuana wrapped to look like Christmas presents.

Ohio police pulled Daniel Yates, 31, over on Wednesday after they saw him driving too close to another car.

After performing a routine inspection of his vehicle, they noticed the boot and backseat of the rented Ford were full of wrapped presents.

The gifts were covered in Christmas paper, and could have easily passed for the real deal had they been placed under a tree.

But a drug-sniffing police dog raised the alarm, prompting cops to unwrap the presents – only to find 71 pounds of weed, 360 THC pills and a pound of hash wax oil.

The driver has been charged with drug possession and trafficking, and is currently being held at Wood County Jail in Ohio.

If convicted, the 31-year-old could spend up to 16 years behind bars, and be forced to pay a $30,000 (£24,000) fine.

The sale, possession and manufacture of marijuana is heavily regulated under Ohio state laws.
