BRITAIN will be ruled by Euro judges even after leaving the EU, under “soft” Brexit plans drawn up by Labour.
They now want the European Court of Justice to continue meddling in our affairs – despite a string of controversial decisions.
It is loathed by many MPs for blocking attempts to deport ban terror suspects, deport foreign criminals or cut tax on booze or energy.
The UK government has lost three out of four cases it has fought in the Luxembourg-based court over the past 40- years.
But shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer has suggested ministers should continue to obey its rulings after we have left.
He believes pulling out of the single market, the customs union and the European Court would be an unacceptably “hard” Brexit.
And his shadow Cabinet colleague Diane Abbott insisted Britain must also accept uncontrolled EU migration as part of our departure deal.
Sir Keir accused the government of wanting to remove Britain from “seemingly anything with Europe in its name”.
And he warned that pulling out of the court’s jurisdiction could mean companies face “impediments and regulatory changes” after we quit the EU.
But his remarks have alarmed Leavers who view the court as a major cause of Britain’s disaffection with the EU.
The court over sees the whole system and has ultimate power over not only the British legal system but parliament.
The UK was defeated in 101 out of 131 legal actions.
Rulings against the government include prolonging a ban on worldwide export of British beef and scrapping a cut in beer duty in 1981.
Last year, Luxembourg judges outlawed the UK’s reduced VAT rate on “energy saving materials” designed to cut the cost of home insulation.
Former justice minister Dominic Raab said: “Labour say they respect the referendum result.
“But their Brexit spokesman opposes Britain leaving the court that prevents us barring entry to terrorists or removing criminals who commit crimes here.
“It’s dishonest and dangerous. They are taking the public for fools.”
Yesterday Diana Abbott backed her Brexit “softie” pal by insisting Britain must accept uncontrolled EU migration to keep trade links open.
The shadow home secretary said: “You cannot have access to the single market or be part of the single market without freedom of movement. It’s time people started acknowledging that.
“Those of us who are arguing for the least harmful Brexit have to be clear to people that there is no deal to be done on freedom of movement and to imperil our economic interests as a country because of anti-immigrant feeling would scarcely be responsible.”
