Local Avis Collis, 54, stopped him and said: “I love you.”

Harry then tenderly held her hand, pointed at her and replied: “Love you.”

Afterwards the 54-year-old, who is more than two decades older than the Prince, begged journalists to pass on her digits.

She told reporters: “Here’s my phone number can you give it to the Prince.

“He told me he loved me I can’t believe it.

"I may be 54 but I’m single and I’m available!”

But not all the locals in Vermont were as affectionate as Avis.

The Royal was blanked by a parrot called Polly after he repeatedly said hello to the bird.

Polly, who can also say hello and good morning, refused to respond to the Prince.

Standing back to admire the bird from a distance, the Prince then said: "They are amazing. Do you ever let them out?"

When informed the birds have the tendency to get aggressive, he responded: "I can tell."

Prince Harry, 32, has neglected to speak about his relationship with Meghan, 35, since arriving in the Caribbean for the 15-day tour last weekend.

He looked embarrassed when the Prime Minister of Antigua, Gaston Browne, invited the pair to have their "honeymoon" in the country earlier this week.
