Power failure halts trains and disrupts hundreds of rail passengers as travel chaos continues across the UK
Great Western Railway is advising passengers not to travel after power cut to main line in west England disrupts journeys
A POWER failure on a major train line has “stranded” hundreds of rail passengers in the west of England.
The outage caused a signalling systems failure between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads stations, Great Western Railway (GWR) said.
Services between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads and Westbury and Bristol Temple Meads have been affected.
Engineers are in the process of repairing the damage to the railway’s signalling system, Network Rail said.

Speaking on the travel pandemonium, a spokesperson for GWR said the firm was “unable to source replacement road transport”.
Several trains have been cancelled, with one person reporting on social media that “hundreds” of passengers had essentially been “left stranded” in Bristol until Sunday.
One exasperated commuter told the they had “given up” waiting as hundreds of rail passengers were forced to queue for a small number of replacement bus services.
They advised anyone with plans to travel from Temple Meads to “avoid it at all costs”.
The power failure comes just weeks before London is set for similar travel chaos.
