McDonald’s to be served on commercial FLIGHTS as company teams up with an airline for the first time in history

The airline said "it improves the guest experience and just ups the game"

MCDONALD'S will now be available on commercial flights for the very first time.

The fast food giant has teamed up with Canadian airline WestJet to offer customers their goods throughout journeys.

But fans of the restaurant chain may be disappointed to hear that favourites such as the Big Mac won't be available.

Instead it will be only the McDonald's McCafe Premium Roast Coffee that is on offer.

The coffee will be available for free to customers on demand during all domestic flights.

McDonald's has previously teamed up with WestJet in working with its children’s charities.

WestJet CEO Gregg Saretsky said: "We serve 30,000 cups a day and so, clearly, good visibility for the McCafe brand.

"How it helps us is we’re going to be serving a better cup of coffee so it improves the guest experience and just ups the game in the coffee wars in the Canadian skies."

The service has already begun on some flights, and will roll out to all domestic journeys in the coming months.

John Betts, McDonald's Canada's president and CEO, said: "We've always believed that the sky is the limit for McCafé - and today this officially rings true.

"We're proud that Canadians have welcomed McCafé into their homes and daily routines, and now our partnership with WestJet lets us take this connection to even greater heights for Canadian coffee lovers."
