, the shocking CCTV clip shows a hooded attacker setting fire to the defenceless man outside a liquor store.
The twisted assailant then stabs Matthew several times and throws trash on him to keep the fire burning.
The victim is reportedly in a critical condition and has suffered burns to over 60% of his body.
The CBS local news outlet spoke to local businessman Henry Martinez who owns a barbershop nearby and considers Matthew a friend.
He said: “He didn’t deserve it. He was a good guy.
“He never asked anybody for nothing, he would just sit there and mind his own business.”
The news outlet reports that the attack was ‘unprovoked’ and happened on November 6 at 10pm local time.
The wanted criminal poured fire accelerant over the victim to start the violent blaze.
Sergeant Jim Morgen, of Adams County Sheriff’s Office, called the case one of the most disturbing he has seen in his 20 years on the force.
Speaking about the attack, he said: “He takes some of those trash contents and puts them on the victim to reignite him."
The clip ends with the attacker walking with away with one of the victim’s crutches – which is still on fire.
Pal Henry said Matthew would often do odd jobs for him and he would even wash the homeless man’s hair.
He said: “I know he didn’t have family but he had us and we cared about him.
“In the mornings he would offer to throw out my trash, clean up my parking lot. He had a heart.”
Police are hunting a man they consider 'extremely dangerous' who is either white or Hispanic measuring around 6ft tall with a stocky build.
