He notoriously ordered the Islamic State's enemies to be beheaded and then deprived of a burial.

According to Islamic scripture, a Muslim must be buried as soon as possible after death.

A source told : "The ISIS summary court judge, a French national, was killed by armed attackers as he got into a car at the eastern part of the province.

"The judge was known among the people of Nineveh as the 'Blood Judge', having sentenced any violator of the group’s directives to beheading and deprivation of burial."

The killer was given the sickening role earlier this year after a shakeup of ranks in the province.

The source added that ISIS has sent out fighters to avenge the fallen leader.

Since it took over large parts of Iraq and Syria in 2014, ISIS has become notorious for beheading opponents and those who violate its twisted interpretation of Islam - and then proudly posting vile footage of the executions online.

The group is on the verge of being wiped out in Iraq thanks to a US-led coalition bombing campaign and Kurdish and Iraqi government ground troops.

The news comes a day after a suicide bombing that targeted Shiite pilgrims killed 70 in the Iraqi village of Shomali, about 75 miles southeast of Baghdad.

The suicide bombing was claimed by ISIS.
